About Me

The instructions say I should tell a little about myself, so here goes.

ABOUT ME

I’m a, uh, mature guy, born during the Truman administration.  I grew up in a small town in Indiana (think “Middletown, USA”) during the sixties.  I’ve been married for over 30 years.

Politically, most would say I’m a bit left of center.  However, I think a lot of that’s because the center seems to have moved to the right.  Before you call me a socialist, know that I am the majority owner of a small corporation in Indianapolis.  I went to law school at night while working during the day.   I understand the value of work and the motivational value of profit.

On the other hand, I also believe in a level playing field.  Everyone should have the opportunity to better himself/herself, whether or not there were well-off parents.  And decent healthcare, especially for your children, shouldn’t depend on the size of your bank account.

ABOUT MY BOOKS

We all know that history repeats itself.  I am of the opinion that it sometimes raises its voice.

The sixties saw an unpopular war, racial unrest, and a growing movement for women’s rights.  Those who espoused fear and hatred shouted down the voices of love and reason.  The polarization seemed shocking, back then.  Today, it has become the norm.

The Differential series (loosely categorized as historical fiction) is about Patrick Summers.

The first book, Differential, takes him from adolescence through the point, in the late sixties, at which he has begun to reach his potential for making a difference.

The second book, Differential Housing, takes Summers through the mid-seventies.  Racism and sexism are still issues, and homelessness is becoming a serious concern.  He makes his own contribution on these while proving that businesses can be fair and still grow and prosper.

Second Summers is my venture into science fiction.

A middle-aged man wakes up screaming to find himself lying in a hospital bed, his head wrapped in a bandage. He doesn’t know how he got there.

Soon he remembers that he is a lawyer and businessman named Patrick Summers. The teenage boy staring back at him in the mirror tells him otherwise.

Perry Summers is a clone, with all of Patrick’s memories but the muscles of a young athlete. Perry realizes he has the potential to take on the world with decades of wisdom inside an energetic body. With a second chance at youth, he can’t help but want to make history.

Can Perry keep his identity a secret, or will a nosy reporter and the struggle between his two selves derail his plans for good?

The books are, in general, about making a difference.  There are also some sex scenes, just so you know.  Are they included to help sell books, or to make a point about the irrational nature of sex taboos?  Yes.

ABOUT MY BLOGS

As the title implies, I intend to spout off about a variety of topics.  Social issues are of interest to me, as well as other current events.  I intend to provide documentation wherever possible for the things I believe to be factual.  I don’t mind at all if anyone disagrees with me, but I will insist on a minimal amount of decorum.
